Seafood isn’t necessarily my favorite food, but there are a few types of fish that I really do like. Salmon and Cod are probably my favorite. Not only does Cod have a mild flavor, but there are some amazing nutrients in those little buggers!
In one 4-oz filet of Cod, you’ll find:
109% of Vitamin B12
57% of Selenium
56 % of Phosphorus
40+% of Protein
I decided to come up with a Paleo Asian Cod recipe to help fill this mild fish with flavor.
Prep Time | 5 minutes |
Cook Time | 10 minutes |
Servings |
|
- 4 cod filets
- 1/3 cup coconut aminos you can pick this up at Whole Foods
- 1 TBSP sesame oil
- 2 TBSP honey
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1/4 cup green onions chopped
- 1/2-1 tsp red chili pepper flakes
- salt/pepper to taste
- 3 TBSP coconut oil
Ingredients
|
- Add all ingredients, except coconut oil, to large Ziploc bag.
- Let fish marinate for at least an hour in the fridge (you can skip this step if you're in a hurry).
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Place fish in skillet, discard remaining marinade, and cook about 4-5 minutes per side, until fish flakes easily.

Would this recipe still be good without honey? Is there a replacement for the honey? You have this recipe tagged as “Whole30”, but the Whole30 bans the use of honey.

Hi, Della! You can definitely leave out the honey!!

I don’t have sesame oil on hand-what are your thoughts on coconut oil? Change the flavour much? Thanks!
Life Made Full says
It will definitely change the flavor, but you’re welcome to try it!

This was VERY tasty and quick, I did not have time to marinate and it still tasted wonderful. I used maple syrup instead of honey. I don’t think the maple syrup was necessary as the brand of coconut aminos I buy is on the sweet side already. I absolutely LOVED the taste of the green onions due to the “carmelization” that had occurred in the pan. I plan to add more onions next time – I will DEFINITELY be making this again and again! Thank you for this recipe 🙂

*Also, I did NOT discard the marinade . . . added it straight to the pan so it made a yummy sauce for the fish**
