So, I've been thinking really hard about what to do for Lent this year. I'm not Catholic, and I didn't even really know what Lent was until last year when Superman's health was in the toilet and I was desperate for help. I've mentioned before that last year I decided to give up some of my sleep, and wake up a half hour early each day to pray for Superman's healing. It was awesome. It was so awesome, that I kept doing it, and am still doing it a year later. But I was at a loss about what to do ... continue reading...

We took an hour today.
We took an hour today. Ironically, being contained on our property and in our home over these past few weeks, we have spent little time actually “together.” The weekdays are taken up with a structured schedule of school, working on the property, doing chores, eating food (and having 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lunch…), Zoom meetings, and tv time. Are the public schools on life support?
Years ago, after Superman was diagnosed with celiac disease but his health was not improving, I did something different for Lent. I committed to waking up at 4:30 every morning to pray for my sick husband's health. I recently went back and read through those prayers. They were desperate, raw, hopeful. But now, nearly a decade later, it's time for me to pray for ... continue reading...

She's 12 years old now. She's blossomed from a little girl who came to us at one year old and was scared of her new daddy for months, to this strong, opinionated young woman. I'm gonna be a bit vulnerable here and say Naomi has often been a challenge for me. Or maybe I should say I have had a challenge with her. This girl is smart, observant, funny, kind and incredibly thoughtful. She has given me gifts that were so touching they made me cry. She is also headstrong, stubborn, incredibly ... continue reading...
My husband can’t see my face.
We’ve been married for 20 years. You would think after two decades of sleeping next to the same woman, a man would be able to remember his wife’s face. Chris has always told me he doesn’t remember faces. I’ve struggled to really grasp what he means when he says he just can’t SEE a person’s face in his mind if he thinks about him or her. Having autism means Chris’ mind works differently than most. He’s tried to explain it to me...that he thinks more in ideas, puzzle pieces...not ... continue reading...
