The 30 Days to Simplify Challenge
I’ve often felt I was born in the wrong decade. There’s something about the 40s and 50s that have always appealed to me. The lack of “political correctness,” the slower pace, the more traditional approach to life…it all is exciting to me. Not saying those times were perfect by any means, but there are features of those decades I’d like to pull back into our society now. So I came up with a “simplify challenge.”
Our culture is so rushed. It’s all about sports, extracurricular activities, academic success, and going, going, going. It’s almost frowned upon if your kids are not involved in sports or after-school activities, seeming as though they are falling behind if their schedules are not jam-packed until late into the night. I don’t like that. Really, not one bit. I want to go back to a time when neighbors stopped in for a slice of pie, and there were no cell phones, computers, or cable TV. When the evenings at home consisted of dinner around the table, listening to a radio show, and kids using their imaginations. Perhaps, in this nostalgic picture, there could even be the sounds of a friendly game of pickleball echoing from the nearby court, fostering a sense of community and leisurely enjoyment. And for those looking to engage in a new activity, why not consider learning some pickleball strategy for beginners? It’s a game that’s easy to pick up, promotes camaraderie, and offers a fun way to stay active in the midst of our busy lives.

And so, I’m bringing simple back. At least for 30 days. And this is how it’s going to work:
For the month of August, we will be reaching back to a simpler time. Each week will feature one challenge to work on. Ideally, we will build on each challenge, continuing to practice the challenge from the week before. They’re not difficult challenges, but they will take some discipline. I don’t think you’ll be sorry, though. You may love it so much, you decide to keep it up. Worst case scenario? You have a calmer, more engaging month than you’ve had in a long time. Best case? You are so impressed with how your life has improved, that you continue to simplify, well after the 30 days are up.
Wanna know what’s on the menu? Tune in next week for the big reveal! I’ll give you a hint for week 1: it involves food!
Excited? You should be! This is gonna ROCK!
