I have to admit, I’m kind of a crockpot junkie. I use my slow cooker as much as I can, because honestly, it makes my life so much simpler. And when I can come up with dessert recipes for the crockpot, even better! I mean, who doesn’t love coming home to a house of warm, sweet goodness??
This is the perfect fall recipe to use fresh, seasonal apples. After all, when you eat apples out of season, they could be a year old! Eating them when they’re in season will give you the best results.
This recipe is incredibly fast to throw together (if you have a spiralizer you could make it even faster!). Throw it in the crockpot and come home to dessert! Who needs dinner, right?? =)

- Apple mixture:
- 1/2 cup coconut sugar or organic brown sugar
- 1/2 cup raw honey
- 5-7 large apples peeled and cut into chunks (I used Granny Smith)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- Topping:
- 2/3 cup gluten free oats
- 2/3 cup coconut sugar or organic brown sugar
- 1/4 cup Bob's Red Mill 1:1 Gluten Free Flour Blend I buy at Costco for $6.99 for 5 lbs
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3-4 TBSP softened butter or coconut oil
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Ingredients
|
- Combine ingredients for apple mixture, and pour into bottom of crockpot, spread evenly.
- Mix topping ingredients until combined.
- Sprinkle over top of apple mixture.
- Cook on low for 4 hours, or high for 2 hours.
- If you have time, let sit for about a 1/2 hour after to thicken a bit.
- Enjoy!
- Note: I let mine cook for 4 hours, and sit on "warm" for 2 hours since we weren't home, and it turned out wonderfully!)

Hi, Rosemary! I am not sure…here is an article about subbing oats, though. Hope it helps! http://www.livestrong.com/article/555394-non-gluten-substitute-for-oats-in-oatmeal-cookies/

This is the first dessert I made in a crockpot. Delicious. Used organic gala apples. Making it tomorrow for a second time and will cut back a bit on the sweetness. Thank you.

Can you prep it the night before in the crockpot and cook it the next afternoon without the apples turning brown? Does it cook the same using the instant pot slow cooker function?
