Maybe this “toxic masculinity” is partially a manifestation of “toxic femininity.”
Women, how about we stop trying to control our men?
We:
Nag.
Manipulate.
Attempt to change them.
Cry victim, but expect to be given power.
Want special privileges and treatment, while calling for equality.
Tell boys to sit still and be more like girls.
Is this the best a woman can do?
We can do better.
How about we:
Treat men with respect.
Encourage them to use their masculinity in good ways.
Be a safe haven for them.
Show our strengths through kindness and generosity instead of attempted intimidation.
See men as our teammates instead of our competition.
Stop pointing fingers.
Say “thank you” when a man opens a door.
And thank men for jumping into harm’s way without a second thought BECAUSE of their masculinity.
How about we stop making excuses and build our men up instead of trying to feminize them to be more like us.
Men and boys don’t need to be jerks, but they do need to be men. And we need to allow them to do so.
