I was so excited when I received Arsy Vartanian’s new cookbook, “The Paleo Slow Cooker” in the mail!
This book is filled with amazing recipes for your slow cooker, from appetizers to main dishes to desserts. I had such a hard time picking what I wanted to make first!
One thing I loved is that at the beginning of the book, Arsy writes about what the Paleo diet is, what the benefits are, tips for following a Paleo diet, and then spends a few pages discussing why fats are so good for you. She also included some slow cooker tips, and my favorite one was this:
Adding herbs, spices and salt at the end of cooking will reduce your chances of ending up with bland, watery dishes.
Who knew?! I sure didn’t!

I don’t use my slow-cooker as much as I used to, but still probably average at least once a month. Part of the reason I use it less, though, is that most of my favorite slow-cooker recipes aren’t paleo, so you never know.

I use my slow cooker at least once a week! Usually to cook an entire chicken while I’m at work. Although recently I’ve discovered you can cook an entire squash in the slow cooker so I’ve been doing that, as well. It makes the squash much easier to handle.

I probably use my slow cooker 1-2 times per week. I scrub whole red beets, cut off the leaves (leave about 1 inch of stem) and put them in the crock pot on high for about 3 hours with 1/2 inch of water. Then let them cool enough to peel. Even the kids love red beets this way. I have frozen lots of beets from the garden this summer. Thanks for doing the giveaway!

I think that I crockpot once a week but in reality it’s more like twice a month. I have trouble finding recipes without tomatoes in them and we’ve got one that doesn’t like tomatoes. I look forward to reading about new recipes!

may sound weird…but depending on the time of the year, I use my slow cooker anywhere from 2-3 times a week to almost never. I NEED to use it more often…I KNOW it would help me with the insanity in the evenings trying to get dinner done.

During busy times I use my slow cooker at least once a week. Through the summer when we have so much fresh stuff I tend to use it less as we eat more things raw, but I still use it making good broths and such regularly.
