I gotta be honest, Paleo batch cooking and freezer meals are new to me. There have been a few times in the past when I doubled batches of meals and froze half of it for a later date, but I haven’t really been intentional about doing a “planned” batch cooking day where I do a bunch of prep in order to make a number of meals ahead of time. A friend and I recently decided to take a morning and prepare five meals to freeze that we could just pull out and cook when desired. It was so much fun, and we felt so accomplished when we were done. It felt SO good knowing I had 5 meals ready to go, just sitting in the freezer for those days that I forget to plan ahead.
So, wondering what the difference between batch cooking and freezer meals is?
Batch cooking is the process of preparing multiple portions of several meals at once and storing them for future consumption. On an individual level, most people that regularly utilize batch cooking prepare enough food for a week or month in one day. {source}
Freezer meals don’t necessarily have to be large batches, they are just prepped, sometimes prepared and frozen ahead of time so that you can easily pull something out of the freezer whenever you’re ready!The trick to making these “freezer meals” is just preparing most of the ingredients, if not all, ahead of time, freezing in Ziploc baggies or baking dishes, and then just adjusting your cook times as needed! If you want to batch cook, just double or triple the recipes!
