The 61 Day No Junk Challenge
It’s that time of year…fun size candy. Everywhere. At friends’ houses. In doctor’s offices. At banks. Of course, at Costco and every other grocery store. I’m going to be very honest here and say that Kit Kat and Butterfingers are two of my favorite enemies.
Last year, I completed my third 61 Day No Junk Challenge! My three boys all completed the challenge for the first time, too! They each got $20 and a day of video games. The deal was that they had to donate all their candy the day after Halloween, so no gorging the day after the challenge!
What is the challenge?
I am resolving to get through the Halloween season (Sept. 1st – Oct. 31st) without eating junky candy. It’s an official challenge open to all of YOU! Now, eating no junky candy does not, I repeat, does not mean we won’t be eating treats. We’ll just be eating high-quality treats, mostly home-baked, and not giving in to the Kit Kats or Twix bars. Mostly because once I go down that road, it takes a long time to get me back to where I want to be.
What exactly qualifies as “junk?” GMO-laden, not-real-food candy. Stay away from any of those “snack size” (or KING SIZE!) Crunch bars or Snickers or Almond Joy (and the king size ones, too–oh wait, did I already say that??). If you want a treat, bake something at home, or find a good quality chocolate bar to munch on. And who knows? Maybe if enough people stop buying this junk, they’ll start offering better, non-GMO options in the mainstream markets!
For me, wheat and sugar are completely out for the next 61 days.
So, are you in?
