I loved this article about the benefits of Kefir and how simple it is to make your own. So often, when we find something that works for us diet-wise, we want to shout from the rooftops to “eat this way and you’ll feel great!” And I think that’s ok, to some extent. I truly believe that people in general can benefit from a grain-free, sugar-free life. But that doesn’t mean it’s the best option for everyone. And sure, a strict “Paleo” diet means no dairy, but if you tolerate some dairy well, and you enjoy it, then why cut it all out? We’ve cut out most dairy in our home, mostly because Josh and Superman both can’t tolerate it, and I don’t do well after a few days of eating it. But we all seem to do great with homemade yogurt (with the exception of Superman–we haven’t ventured into dairy with him yet). Fermented dairy is often tolerated better than unfermented dairy, and that has definitely been the case in our home.
I think those of us who get passionate about healthy eating need to be careful about doing “across the board” blanket statements about what is best for everyone. We are each uniquely made, and thus have unique needs physically, emotionally, spiritually…it’s just not possible for there to be a “one size fits all” approach to life, especially in regards to diet.
