No, these aren’t Paleo.
No, they aren’t sugar-free.
But they’re at least made with ingredients that are a teensy bit better for you. At least that’s what I’m telling myself. Because I have to make them at least once a year, right around Christmas time.
Here are the ingredients listed on the Rice Chex box:
9 cups Rice Chex
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips (contain dairy and often GMOs)
1/2 cup peanut butter (if it’s not organic, peanuts are one of the highest pesticide-covered crops)
1/4 cup butter or margarine (margarine is a no no!)
1 tsp vanilla
1.5 cups powdered sugar (contains GMOs in the corn starch)
And here’s what I make mine with:
9 cups Rice Chex
1 cup Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips (these are dairy/soy free)
1/2 cup organic peanut butter or almond butter
1/4 cup grassfed butter or ghee (stay away from margarine! That stuff’s cancer in a tub)
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1.5 cups organic powdered sugar (this way there won’t be any corn starch in the sugar, and no GMOs)
So, no. These aren’t healthy, they’re healthier. But we are not about 100% whole foods around here, as much as I’d like to be in my dream world. We eat off grid sometimes, and these are a “cleaned up” version of a classic holiday treat.

You could make these just a tad healthier with coconut crystals ground in a spice/coffee grinder. It has a very similar consistancy to real powdered sugar 🙂
