I get the question a lot “HOW do you do it all?!” So I thought I’d break down a typical day for you so you can see it’s not magic, it’s purely by God’s grace! This is on a good day, assuming that everything goes as planned…lol
4:40 — Wake up and get ready for yoga (usually 2-3 times a week–on non-yoga days, I get up at about 5:30), sometimes get a pot of steel cut oats in the oven set for about an hour so that Superman has breakfast ready for him. However if you have a friend or a loved who has been injured, you can recommend this yoga for injury recovery here and see best results!
5:00 — Leave for yoga
6:45 — Get back from yoga, take a quick shower and make coffee.
7:00 — Superman leaves for work. Kids do their chores. If they’re having oatmeal, I dish that out. Otherwise, I make something else.
7:30 — Kids eat breakfast while I do devotions with them (either Prayer Warrior Monday, or we do THIS devotional which we love!) and pray.
7:45-ish — Start school*
11:30-ish — End school*
*I try not to answer calls during this time, and don’t use the computer. It’s set aside for school time so we don’t get distracted.
*First I do math with Josh and Mike, while Caleb watches his math lesson and completes his homework. Naomi works on her handwriting and Grace does phonics stuff.
*Next I do math with Naomi, and Grace kind of follows along with us (she loves participating!), Josh and Mike complete their math homework, and then move on to their spelling & grammar. Caleb is self-guided since he has a planner that lists all his assignments for the week in each subject.
*Next I have Michael read aloud to me, then Naomi. While they’re doing that, Josh is reading silently, and then reads aloud to me when the other two are done. Then they all do worksheets correlating with their reading. Josh writes a summary of what he read that day.
*I sit down with Grace (or if I’m still busy with other kids will have Caleb do this) and do a 15-20 minute phonics lesson and give her some practice sheets, and a math worksheet.
*Once everyone is done with their individual work, we will do a science lesson/experiment. The kids take an all-day history class once a month, so I just do some stuff on the side with them a few times a week. Sometimes we’ll do art, just depending.
*Sometime during this time, I find something to eat. I’m kind of bad about remembering to feed myself breakfast, so half the time it’s 10:00 and I realize I’m starving. lol
11:30-ish — I make lunch
11:45 — Kids eat, then go play outside for about an hour. Sometimes I’ll do an organized sport for P.E. or have them do some CrossFit workouts.
1:00 to 2:30 — Kids go to room time, in separate spots. While they are there, I get blogging work done, experiment with recipes, do my quiet time (read my Bible, pray, etc.), and sometimes even get to watch an episode of Parenthood. =)
2:30 — Kids come in, have a snack and usually watch an educational show for about an hour on Netflix.
3:30-ish — Kids go back outside to play and wait for daddy to get home while I start prepping dinner.
4:00-5:00 — I cook dinner, Superman usually gets home during this time, kids have free time.
5:30-ish to 7:00 — We hang out, sometimes watch a couple episodes of 19 Kids and Counting, play a game, etc. Sometimes I’ll get some blog stuff done during this time.
7:15 — Girls go to sleep, boys go to room time (this is their quiet time to read their Bibles and pray).
7:45 — Lights out for the boys
7:45 to 9:00-ish — Superman and I spend time talking about our day, things we have coming up, watch a movie together, or just hang out. Then it’s time to go to bed and get up tomorrow to do it all over again!

This is really inspirational. I have so much respect for you. Having 5 kids and being so organized isn’t easy. And I have a question for you – how do you manage to get up so early? Where do you find motivation?

Hi, Vita! It’s hard getting up some days! Especially those yoga mornings. But I know if I go do yoga, I’m going to be happy I did. Other days, I struggle with that “morning sadness” and have to fight to get out of bed. I always try to start my day by telling God something I’m thankful for. Usually it’s that He’s given me another day. =) It also helps that I’m naturally a morning person. I want to be in bed by 9:00 naturally, so it helps me get up the next morning! Hope that helps!
