Carbs. They get a bad rap, right? I mean, even though there are differing opinions about how many carbs one needs and whether we should be eating them in the form of grains or not, they are a necessary part of our lives. Where you get them from is vital. Are you getting yours from fruits and veggies? Or from that piece of pizza or whole-grain toast?
What about fats? Since as far back as I can remember, fats have been shunned. My mom gave me whole milk when I was younger, but as I got into my teenage years, I read all about the “low-fat ideal.” A diet rich in whole grains and skim milk was something to strive for. I remember even going through the “Olean” phase. Do you remember that stuff? I once downed a whole container of Pringles and thought how awesome I was for “beating the system.” It was all the rage in the mid-90’s. And Olean’s still around. You just don’t hear about it as much. Check out THIS hilarious article about five foods related with anal leakage; Olean being one of them.
But why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we try to get as far away as possible from the wonderful foods God has given us? I mean, really?! Eating an “indigestible molecule” so we don’t gain weight??
But what about those clogged arteries from eating too much fat? See THIS article for some valuable information on why fats are actually good for our bodies! But won’t eating lots of fat make you gain weight? Well, that’s debatable. HERE’S an article about how eating a low-fat diet will often make you gain weight. For an overview of different fats, click HERE.
And finally, this infographic does an amazing job of explaining (in pictures and words) just how this whole process works. Please check it out–you won’t be sorry!
