As soon as I opened the package with Beyond Bacon in it, I knew I had struck gold!
I’m not exaggerating when I say the quality of this book is impeccable! Everything from the hard cover, to the photos, to the adorable fonts and attention to detail pulled me in.
I’ve never really understood the whole obsession with bacon–I mean, I love bacon like anyone else, but I’m not sure why some people are willing to give up their firstborn child in order to have some. So, to find a book that appreciates the whole hog made me very happy. And you know what I really love? Beyond Bacon is not like other cookbooks! It’s so unique. What other cookbooks will tell you how to make headcheese and your own bacon, and continue to fill its pages with amazing entrees, side dishes, and desserts like salted caramel bacon sauce, brownies and frozen custard, all featuring ingredients from a pig?! None, I tell you! None.
A big bonus: lots of helpful tips and info at the beginning of the book, about how to find & afford pastured pork, how pork may affect your blood, what tools are helpful, and the history of pig cultivation. Matt & Stacy at Paleo Parents cover why they wrote their book, how to get started, and then pack nearly 300 pages with amazing recipes featuring the whole pig.
It’s obvious how much thoughtfulness, time, blood, sweat and tears went into creating this masterpiece. I have never seen anything like it. Oh, did I say that already? Well, I mean it!
There were so many delectable recipes to choose from, but I decided to go for two things that seemed destined to be together: “Best Brownies” and “Salted Caramel Bacon Sauce.” I am, after all, a baker at heart. I like to think that my desire for sweets is just a reflection of my sweetness. Yeah, I’m gonna stick with that.
Ok, so Salted + Caramel + Bacon + Brownies = perfection, right?? The answer is: RIGHT. Even though I was a bit hesitant about the whole bacon + sweet thing, it sounded like it had great potential for amazingness. And goodness sakes alive! It did. The saltiness from the bacon caramel mixed with the warm fudgy-ness made for a delightful party in my mouth.
I wish I could share the recipes with you here, but you’re going to have to have the book yourself to get them! Believe me, it’s worth it. And one of you won’t even have to fork out the money yourself! You can enter below!

YUM!! My husband is one of those people who would give up their firstborn for bacon. I just learned to like the taste of it about 3 mos ago — he’s thrilled, of course. I think ‘Beyond Bacon’ could be the only cookbook he’d willingly look through, drool over and want to not only help me plan the menu but cook it as well! Suffice it to say, we want one. 🙂 Also, I am subscribed to your blog via email!

Hi there! You have no idea how bad I want this book! I have a serious hunkering for Bacon… There is this big pink cupcake truck (the cupcake lady) that goes to different areas of the surrounding towns. When I see this big pink apparatus, I have to stop to get one of her chocolate bacon maple cupcakes!!! Reminiscent of these Salted Camel Bacon Brownies! Problem is she isn’t always around 🙂 I also love these local Pig Scones (they have meaty bacon chunks in them and they are served warm!) Oh my!! I’m feeling the hunkering for bacon coming on strong! Help a sister out! Lol!!!
