This is one of my all-time favorite photos of Grace. It popped up in my memories the other day, and it got me thinking about how I often forget to appreciate (or even notice) the “last times.”
This was the last time she wore that dress. Later that day, she fell down and tore it, and I tossed it after it sat in my room waiting to be repaired for months. Because let’s be honest: having five small children pretty much took all my bandwidth and I didn’t have any extra to fix it, and by the time I got around to it, she had grown out of the dress. 😬
I didn’t notice the last time I changed a diaper.
I didn’t notice the last time I had to get up at night to bottle feed each child.
I didn’t notice the last time I fed them baby food.
I didn’t notice the last time they used a sippy cup.
I can’t remember the last time they each called me “mommy” instead of “mom.”
Will I notice the last time I drive them to school?
Will I notice the last tooth lost?
Will I notice the last time they wake up in our home?
Will I notice the last time we take a road trip all together?
As our kids get older, I keep seeing time whiz past and I don’t always notice the “last times.” My hope and prayer is that we will take enough pause each day to just soak in any of the those last times that we may not realize are even lasts…
