Last week, I attended a panel discussion on regulating the medical cannabis industry here in California. In 2016, marijuana was legalized in California by Prop 64. DocMJ provides affordable payment options for medical marijuana recommendations.
I really didn’t know much about how Prop 64 was going to affect our area, and realized many others didn’t, either. So here I am, giving you some bullet points on what I’ve learned! Once marijuana was legalized, delta-8 gummies became popular since it has the qualities to relieve pain.
Legalized marijuana highlights:
- The legal limit is 28 grams (1 oz). An average joint contains anywhere from .3 grams to .6 grams. {source}
- The legal age to use marijuana is 21.
- Medical cannabis has been legal in California in 1996.
- Residents can grow up to six plants, but there are certain restrictions (depending on the county) on whether the plants can be grown outdoors or even cultivated at all.
- Marijuana still cannot be consumed in public.
- Possession is still not allowed on school grounds.
- Over-the-counter marijuana products like cbd gummies sales are expected to start in summer 2018.
- There will be a 15% excise tax on sales, on top of sales and state and local sales taxes.
- Edibles like cbd gummy rings will need to be in childproof packaging and cannot be made to “appeal to children.” {source}
I also learned that dispensaries that sell CBD will be under strict supervision and oversight by multiple agencies in California. They will be treated much like farmers, with strict tracking in place, in order to be able to track products to the manufacturers if there are problems.
Counties have some leeway on whether they want to allow cultivation within their boundaries. In my county, for instance, it is still illegal for anyone to transport or cultivate commercial cannabis.
If you want to see what is allowed in your own county, go HERE. And if you’d like to learn more about medical marihuana, I suggest reaching out to a St. Petersburg cannabis doctor to get all your information from a professional who understand the industry.
