Ok, I have been using my Vitamix for about three years now. We use it almost every day, mostly for smoothies and Superman’s vitamin shake. I had a special affinity for it, and honestly had no interest in the Blendtec because I was so content with it.
But I’ve heard from multiple people that the Blendtec outperforms the Vitamix in multiple areas. I was willing to give it a try, and Blendtec was willing to let me try it for free! I figured I had nothing to lose, but I have to say, I went into this with a skeptic’s glasses on. I wanted to write an honest review, and not be swayed by the free product. It’s really important to me to be honest and forthcoming, and not sell out and say I like things when I really don’t. So, I’m going to be very honest. Oh, and if you end up wanting to try a Blendtec after reading my review, scroll to the bottom of the post to see how to enter to win one from me & Blendtec!
Here was my initial comparison of the two:
- Horsepower: Blendtec=3 – Vitamix=2
- Controls: Blendtec=computerized – Vitamix=manual (Ooooh! The pretty lights! Oh, and there are pre-programmed settings, so you just push a button depending on what you’re blending!)
- Height: Blendtec=15.5 – Vitamix=20.5 (Even though I initially felt the Blendtec seems really short, a big plus is that it will fit under most kitchen cabinets, and the Vitamix won’t)
My Blendtec also came with a small twister jar, and I decided to make some homemade chocolate peanut butter in it (Just throw in 2 cups of peanuts, and 1 cup of your favorite chocolate chips)
My first thought: it was loud! But after the initial shock from that, I could not believe how quickly it blended up my peanuts + chocolate! Within seconds, I had homemade chocolate peanut butter, and my kids were ecstatic! The best part? I was dreading cleaning the blender out, but the special spatula it came with made it SO easy to scoop out, and then I just blended some hot water with a drop of soap and voila! Done!
I would say nut butter-wise, the Blendtec outperformed my Vitamix hands down.
If you’re wondering about the price difference, here’s what I found:
New Designer Series 725 model, which is what I have: $649.95
Refurbished Designer Series 725 model: $549.95
Total Blender Certified Refurbished: $279.95
New Professional Series 750: $598.95
Refurbished Vitamix Standard: $329.99
If you are in the market for a new blender, I highly suggest the refurbished Blendtec. Don’t be scared by the term “refurbished!” It still comes with a 7-year warranty.
I love both the Vitamix and Blendtec, but overall, I would say Blendtec outperformed my Vitamix. And the refurbished model of Blendtec is cheaper than the refurbished Vitamix.
So, would you like to win your very own Blendtec just in time for Christmas?? Enter in the widget below!

Pam H says
When we first went gluten free and dairy free, I knew that we’d need a new blender. We couldn’t swing a vitamix, so I bought the Ninja. I haven’t been totally disappointed with that, but I often find that I have to blend things twice: once in the big jar and once in a small to-go smoothie cup. But there’s some things we just cannot do, soups and nut butters among them. Thank you for writing this review. I didn’t know there was another option besides Vitamix.
Mindy says
Looks pretty awesome – thanks for the review and giveaway!
Sara says
BUT, do you think the Blendtec could outblend the NINJA??!! I’m willing to take on the challenge… send the Blendtec over!! 🙂

How does it do with ice? VERY interested because we ALWAYS make our own peanut butter (& peanut butter for my parents & several friends). We also make smoothies…and have gone through SEVERAL blenders burning up. Not good! My husband is no longer allowed to use the blender because they start smoking when he makes the smoothies. We need a powerful and trustworthy blender!!!!!!
Shanti Landon says
Oh my gosh, ice is NOTHING! lol
Annette Tompkins says
I’d make all the chocolate nut butter your kids want, if I win. 😀
Lori says

Margaret Whitelaw says
I bought my first Vitamix 18 years. Two years ago it was having some issues. Vitamix sent me a replacement part but I could not get the rotor off. It had melted on. Vitamix had me ship the unit back to them (at my cost for shipping, about $12). They completely refurbished my unit and sent it back to me looking Brand New!!! All It cost me was the shipping one way. That’s what I call service! This year I decided I wanted a red one. I’m going for all red appliances on my counter. I bought the new one and gave the 18-year-old one to my 26 year old daughter. Now everyone in my family has one! Three of them are 18 years old and my son and I have new ones. By the way Vitamix is making a new shorter one now that will fit under your cupboard.
