I haven’t had coffee in 6 weeks, but this warm weather is making me reminisce of summer days with a Frappuccino in hand. Unfortunately, the ones from Starbucks are filled with sugar, dairy (or soy) and a bunch of other junk, so I came up with a Paleo frappuccino. Here are the ingredients in the Starbucks version:
Ice, Milk, Coffee Frappuccino Syrup [Sugar, Water, Salt, Natural And Artificial Flavour, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Caramel Color], Coffee, Whipped Cream [Cream (Cream, Milk, Mono And Diglycerides, Carrageenan), Vanilla Syrup (Sugar, Water, Natural Flavors, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid)], Mocha Sauce [Water, Sugar, Cocoa Processed With Alkali, Vanillin].
My version has a lot fewer ingredients and can be whipped up at pretty much anytime with ingredients you most likely already have on hand. Just throw them all in the blender and voila! You’ve got yourself a Paleo frappuccino!
So here’s my substitute! I know, I know…a Frappuccino is hardly “Paleo,” but at least it’s a pretty clean version of this delicious drink! And on a hot summer day, sometimes you just want a cool, refreshing drink that makes you feel like you’re “cheating.” 😛

- Brew coffee. Pour a 1/2 cup into a blender or immersion blender cup. Add the cocoa powder and stir to dissolve. Add remaining ingredients and blend (I used an immersion blender to whip it up fast). Continue to add ice until desired consistency is achieved. Enjoy promptly!

I freeze coffee ‘cubes’ and use them with almond milk to make my version of Mocha-Coconut Frap. I add 1 Tbsp of unsweetened coconut.

So I’m on day 4 of my 21 day sugar detox and I was craving something sweet…specifically your mocha frap but couldn’t have b/c of the honey. So, Diane from Balanced Bites mentioned adding cinnamon to things gives you the sensation that your are eating something sweet. So I made sans the honey and chocolate powder but added generous amount of cinnamon and just the cream from top of coconut milk can and so yummy! Don’t even miss the chocolate and honey. Well, that’s not completely true…but it did the job!

I’m going to try this, it looks delicious. I remember a couple of hears ago when I was doing the Whole 30 I made a similar drink and used dates as a sweetner.
