So after our recent car accident, my jaw started acting up again. Actually, it was more like my jaw and right shoulder and neck had a flame torch held up to them.
It’s funny, because the impact of the collision was really not that strong, but maybe the fact that I saw it coming from my rearview mirror and braced myself for the impact made it worse? All I know is that within a few hours of the accident, my body did not like what had happened.
Over the last two days, it’s gotten progressively worse, and unfortunately, eating crunchy foods is not what my jaw wants right now. So I thought I would do a round-up of Paleo foods that are perfect for a soft foods diet.
Whether you’re recovering from surgery (wisdom teeth? gastrointestinal surgery?), suffering from TMJ or other jaw-related issues, or just have to be on a soft foods diet, there’s no reason to sacrifice health when you’re recovering! As a matter of fact, it’s even more vital that you eat healthy foods when your body is struggling.

These recipes look so amazing and how many times do we need a soft food diet? A Lot! Hello…dental appointments, operations, etc. Thanks for turning your mishap into something you can share!

Thank you for this list. I’ve had TMJ/TMD problems since adolescence, and had jaw surgery at one point, too. Recently it has been bothering me again and I could barely eat yesterday, let alone eat anything healthy. It was nice to find a list of nourishing recipes for those needing soft foods.

Any lunch ideas? My daughter got braces and can’t eat much. Anything good has to be eaten warm, and lunches get cold pretty fast. I made a meatloaf with lots of veggies so its moist and crumbly and it was still too painful for her to eat. I packed gefilte fish, but there is just so much fish one can eat (not just for health reasons, but for variety). I don’t consider muffins and smoothies as food. its a dessert, snack at best. All dentist websites offer noddles in one form or another. But gluten free noodles don’t taste good cold. And a lot of recipes include dairy which we can’t have. I really hard. It has to be healthy, nutritious, filling.

Hi, Anna! I’m so sorry I missed your comment! I’m hoping by now your daughter is able to eat more regular foods!

Thank you for putting this together! I know it’s been a while, but I’m glad it’s still on Pinterest!! We normally eat a paleo diet. I just had oral surgery and can only eat a soft food diet for a few weeks. This will really be helpful!
